From the collection of Annie Gaines Ashton. Bought from HA. Ink over graphite on Duotone board. Part personal gift and part bribe to get an inscribed 8″ x 10″ photo of Gaines to decorate Severin’s studio. Signed in the lower right. Hand-written & signed letter from Severin on his own stationery is taped to the reverse of the frame. The inspiration for the art was the fact that Gaines had an upcoming trip to the USSR (e.g., portrait of Alfred E. Lenin on the wall). Framed in glass.
